We have some encouraging news at Matorka! 🐟
After the recent earthquakes around our hometown of Grindavík, Iceland, we have an update to share.
Today marks the first day of processing in our new facility in Hafnarfjörður👏🏽
We are so proud of the dedicated team who have given their all during these challenging times. Unfortunately, our processing plant in Grindavík was damaged by the earthquakes, and we were forced to find a different processing facility to ensure that the world’s finest Arctic char will continue to be enjoyed by our customers. The past week has involved some hard work moving and installing all our processing equipment and planning out the operations of the new facility.
Whilst things were shaken up at our farm, our hands-on team have been committed to maintaining the health and security of our fish. We are happy to say that the farming operations have been stabilized, and our fish are eating and growing well.
“Diamonds are made under pressure. I guess our team members are all diamonds after these events. I could not be prouder to be part of this crew.” – Christo du Plessis, CEO.
We are extremely grateful for all the support received from the industry, suppliers, lenders and the wider Icelandic community. Our customers are very grateful to receive the world’s finest Arctic char, despite the difficult conditions we are faced with and we are ready to fulfil all Christmas orders.
